PM Modi’s address on the successful test of the Anti-Satellite (ASAT) Missile. #MissionShakti
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday the country had successfully tested an anti-satellite system.
Mr Modi said the system successfully shot down a low-orbit satellite, in a demonstration of its space warfare capabilities.
“In the journey of every nation there are moments that bring utmost pride and have a historic impact on generations to come. One such moment is today,” Mr Modi said on Twitter.
“India has successfully tested the Anti-Satellite (ASAT) Missile,” he said.

Announcing the mission on television, Mr Modi said India has now joined the space “super league” after successfully completing the operation.
China, the United States and Russia all have anti-satellite capabilities, although it has never been used in conventional warfare.
The announcement was met with significant praise in India, with many saying it is the beginning of India as a “super science power” as well as an economic power.
