Sudhir Mishra has come with the fiction drama on Netflix, inspired by Manu Joseph’s satirical novel “Serious Men” published in 2010. A slum dweller Ayyan Mani (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who builds the Mountain of Lies to glorify the life of his young son, Adi Mani (Aakshath Das).
Ayyan Mani (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is a grown-up A Dalit man working as an assistant at The Institute of Theory and Research, under a Brahmin Astronomer Dr. Arvind Acharya (Nassar). Nassar had played a brilliant negative role in Baahubali Series.
BRIEF STORY OF “SERIOUS MEN”:
Ayyan Mani, an assistant to Dr. Arvind Acharya; is an overambitious and underprivileged father of Adi, who wants to glorify his future based on a lie. Ayyan Mani wanted to make Adi a genius kid, but Adi is a usual kid who doesn’t bear the gradually increasing pressure of his father.
Adi was trained by his father to answer with “I can’t deal with primitive minds like you” when he has to face to unknown questions. Politician also shows interest in Adi’s artificial popularity and uses him for their motives. The story reaches an emotional end when Adi fails to continue his father’s ambitiousness.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shweta Basu, and Nassar did a great job to make “Serious Men” interesting. Indira Tiwari (Adi’s Mother) has given the best performance in “Serious Men” and we will see Sanjay Narvekar after a long time as a politician. Last but not the least, Aakshath Das – A brilliant boy is making his debut in Hindi cinema with his remarkable performance.
Director Sudhir Mishra did a very good job in the creation of “Serious Men”. As “Serious Men” web movie is adapted from Manu Joseph’s novel Serious Men. If we neglect the socio-economic class shown in “Serious Men” this has been one of the best web shows in terms of story and performance.
Sudhir Mishra tried to show the Indian antiheretical era; when people from the upper cast used to neglect middle class and lower class communities. Unlike today, a certain community was used to convert the lower community for their motive. It seems like the story is somehow digging up old graves by showing social misbalancing. I am generously giving 3.5 cups out of 5 for the amazing acting performance of Nawaz, Nassar, Indira Tiwari, Sanjay Narvekar, and that boy Adi (Aakshath Das).
